Perfect DVD drive

Hi, im on a quest lookin for the perfect optical drive for my carputer.

1. It has to be thin, its going under my monitor that sits in my double din opening.

2. It has to be USB because my computer is way in the trunk, and i dont think they make IDE cables that long *do they*

3. Slot loading style

4. Has to be able to burn CD-R's and can READ DVD's.

5. Cost less than $200.00

I been lookin around and keep finding stuff that is ALMOST what im lookin for.
The best one i seen has it all xcept the "slot loading " style. I guess ill go for that one if i can't find the perfect one.

Anybody seen my perfect drive for sale anywhere?

I have an Apacer CP200 COMBO* Do not get the CP200 , get the COMBO.

The diff is the combo has the DVD playable feature and the normal doesn't.

Better yet a reason to get this is becuase you can buy a DC (car) adapter for 29.99. Which translates into not needing an inverter to power it. =) I had a normal external CD burner and had an inverter hardwired in and there was a ton of feedback in the speakers wheni t was turned on. So use this and have an inverterless carputer like mine =)

The cp200 COMBO also has an on off switch on the side if you don't want it on all the time.

It aso can be stand alone (not hooked up to a PC), or USB to a PC as you are desiring. It also has slots on the side for different memory cards to plug directly into. It can also run off a battery (which it comes with).

Good luck!

Take any DVD-ROM/CD-RW slimline SlotLoading optical Drive, usually costs less than $80, take a SlimCD-to-IDE adapter (less than $10) and a USB-to-IDE adapter (less than ($40) and mount it under your screen. If you want to make a Bezel or a FrontPanel (Aluminium) in order to cover it so that It will look nice, try www.frontpanelexpress.com, they have a free CAD software, so that you can design the Frontpanel and order it! Will cost less than 30$. Hope that helps!
