Question about AUX adapter

I've got a 1998 Volvo S70. I want to eventually run a carputer in there, and will probably use an old powerbook. For right now though, I want to get audio into the back of the original head unit from my mp3 player. The Volvo head unit has an 8 pin mini Din connector that is meant to control a CD changer. I'd like to use this to feed the music in (now from the mp3 player, later from the carputer). The only thing I've found available is an adapter by Blitzsafe that goes from aux to 8pin and costs ~$80. I'm wondering if I can make this cheaper, with my limited skill set... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. If I can't, then does it make sense to buy this for both the mp3 player and the future carputer?

That is a little pricey, but I doubt youll find it much cheaper. That is exactly what you need though.

makes perfect sense to me, unless you are planning on getting a new head unit.

If Terk makes an XM adapter for that HU, you can use it as an AUX input device instead. You will need to power it though. I am currently running my XM pioneer adapter as My AUX input for my PC... it works great.

I was looking in one of my books and it says that VOLAUX1 is for 96+ VW, but I think it maybe an error. I can check on it for you though.

But yes, you will need this unless you purchase a new Head unit with an AUX on it.

Is there no way to hack this, then? I mean, I couldn't buy an 8 pin din plug and solder a few wires and get an aux input? Sorry for the newbie question.

I don't know of anyone who has done this, but anything is possible with time. It just might not be worth it for all of the time that is involved.

i use a blitzsafe aux adapter for my car as well. I first got it for my iPOD, then i found this website and used it for my carputer now. There might be a way to make one yourself. But i know with my car, the purpose of the adapter is to trick my headunit into thinking it is an external cd changer.

Yeah, that is what they are for, to trick your head unit into thinking you have a cd changer or navigation(I believe this uses the same input).

Although FM modulators aren't recommended because of the pour quality of sound. Supposedly there are some new ones that you can change the stations. More than your average 88.5 and 89.1. There's a local store by me in nyc called Illusions. They carry it. Blitzsafe supposely isn't that good. PIE was highly recommended to me. I guess do a search on PIE interface. Good luck!
