sound card help...

I finally installed my carputer but am very disappointed with the sound quality...nothing compared to my clarion head unit which runs off of fiber optic cables for sound...I still get the typical hissing and whining noise when i crank up the volume...And yes I have already installed a ground loop isolator which got rid of the engine noise but not the noise produced by the computer...Im using the onboard sound (realtek 97)...Is there some way to correct this or do I need to get a new sound card...I really have an issue with space because my pc is mounted in the armrest of a sedan which means that regular size sound cards probably wont work...Anyone tried the usb sound cards...I want the best sound quality but dont need all that dolby digital stuff because already have it on the head unit which is still in the car...its the same sound you get when u plug in headphones and turn the volume up.
