My carputer won't turn on (MB or power supply??)
Hi. I currently use a Book PC 500 mhz i810 for my setup.
I'm trying to determine whether I fried the power supply or the motherboard. Anyone know a quick way of finding out.
I turned my carputer on the other day, drove to the gas station, turned it off. When I hit power, it would no longer have any response, no fans, nothing.
I would try swapping the power supply, but I don't have a spare micro atx power supply.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Then you won't know, will you.
Test it with an ATX PSU, and see.
You could also try with a multimetre, and see if power comes out of the PSU.

If absolutely nothing comes on, fans, LEDs, etc, I'd guess it's the power supply. If you hook up a power supply to a bare motherboard, even without a CPU, the power supply fan will at least spin. Might crack open the power supply and see if there is a fuse in there. A multimeter in the power supply will tell you if it's failing or not as well....Just dont short any leads and let the smoke out!

So atx power supplies have the same outputs.
Good idea with the multimeter, i'll try that as well when i get home tonight.
Also, on a side note, i posted in for sale forum, but dows anyone have an extra micro-atx power supply they want to sell or trade (or give me)? Or does anyone know where to get one for really cheap? Thanks all.

ATX is the standard, in terms of connectors and the wires that go into it, not its size.

- Pull Drives power connector out and the main ATX power connector out.
- Short pin 13 and 14 on the ATX connector to see if the PSU turn on.
- If not, the PSU is likely going SOUTH.
- If it turn on, the problem could be somewhere on the mobo. Make sure to check the output voltage on all rail to see if the PSU out put within Spec (10% I think).

Use metal paper clip and connect the 2 together. Just make sure that "paper clip" doesn't touch the mobo or any sensitive parts.
