Will IBUS work w/ carputer and radio????

Question for the BMW/IBUS guys.

What are u going to do to over come the ****y reception of the D-link radio?

--->>> I was wondering if u could leave the stock radio connected (in the glove box), and run both the radio (as connected OEM) and the carputer (via sound card out wires) to the amp. When reception sux, u simply mute the carputer and use the factory radio with your steering wheel buttons.

But I am not sure if the steering wheel buttons will send commands to both (carputer through IBUS chip, and stock radio as OEM normal) simultainiously. ?????

What do u guys think?

Leo

I'm a noobie so this response may be completely wrong but here it goes anyway. From my experience when you run the same signal from two different locations down to one you tend to get a noisy signal at the end. So I would say that you're better off leaving the carputer on mute for radio purposes and then turning it back on for everything else. But like I said I'm still green so I could be wrong in this situation.

You may want to switch the two audio inputs using a relay. That would eliminate the problem of a noisy signal. However, you may need a line level converter if the radio outputs and amplified signal.

Can't answer on whether the IBUS will work on both.

You can see this demo with my VAG/BMW adapter. It allows car PC to listen for HU and send sound back to it. This way you get decent radio and carputer at the same time
Of course steering wheel will work just fine...

another idea: Convert your Hu's outputs into line-level, and feed them into the mic-in of your computer. Voila!

I am interested in the demo two replys ago. Or an inverter set up. Im just so confused. It would suc to make such a big investment and not have a good radio you know? ANd I love the radio.

You guys, think about this. The bmw HU feeds into the amp via a specific connection. It also had the inputs for the actual wires....So maybe HU conected through the stock connection and the computer with spliced ouput wires into the amps input jacks???

That's one way to do it. You might still want to switch it using relays to keep the HU from running signals into your computer's sound card via the splices.

Jbors solution is better. You plug one end into your CD changer cable and the other end into your USB port. Use HU as normal. When you want to listen to your PC, switch your HU to the CD Changer. Control it through the steering wheel buttons. Here's a link to the thread
