PC boot problems

I am using a BKMVP4 Book PC system for my Car PC install.
Sometimes the suspend and hard drive LEDs and fans come on but the PC does not boot unless the reset button is pressed or power is disconnected and reconnected.
XP Pro is installed, but the same thing happened when I reinstlled 98SE. I have returned to XP Pro now.
Any ideas what could cause this problem.

Are you using a DC power supply?

Yes, I'm using a CarNetix P1280 direct to mobo as it only requires 12v and 5v supply.

Same issue with a Carnetix 1260 hookde to my EPIA M1000, sometimes it spins stuff but nothing happens, need to power the car down and back on.

this happens to me too with my opus 150. It usually happens if i turn the car of before the system finishes booting. I believe its all related to the shutdown controller. Since I'm usually the one driving my car, this barley ever happens. However when i go to get my car worked on, I usually just unplug the PSU before hand.

I have found that it happens every fuel stop. The answer seems to be to reset the boot installed PC or to disconnect and reconnect the P1280 input connector. Do you think XP is not shutting down properly (thats why reset is needed) and requires the shutdown time setting to change from 30 to 90 seconds to give XP more time?

I used to have the same problem with my epia m10000 and a carnetix 1280. Often when I turned on my car, the PC would power up, but not boot. I resolved this by changing the 'AC Loss Auto Restart' BIOS option (under power management) to 'On'. I have not had any bootup issues since. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I do not have that option in my BIOS. Thanks for your post anyway.
