USB2.0 hub don't go full speed in XP
Why is my new USB2.0 hub not identified as a 2.0 device? XP says this unit can go faster.

What do you have plugged into it? If you have 1.1 and 2.0 devices plugged into it, the hub reverts back to 1.1 speeds. If you don't have anything plugged into it yet, I would think that you may need some service packs or drivers.

I have a 2.0 DVD drive into it and the damn thing won't even open the tray so I guess the hub is not working very good.

Is the Hub plugged directly into the computer port, or do you have a cable that is between the hub and the computer. What about a canle between the 2.0 DVD drive, and the Hub. The cable might not be 2.0 compliant. If it is not, then the hub will see a 1.1 device, and then the computer will tell you that you could be doin 2.0 instead of 1.1.
As for the USB DVD not being able to opne, USB 2.0 has nothing to do with the power available at the port. It is possible the DVD isn't opening because the DVD needs external power. Not opening doesn't sound like a 2.0 versus 1.1 problem. It sounds like a power problem.

Same result as what. Have you checked for updated/installed drivers?

Thanks for helping!
SP2 is installed. The DVD-drive works as it should if I plug it in directly to the computer. It opens the tray without external power.
The cable from computer to hub is what I got with the hub so it SHOULD be compatible with 2.0 when the hub says USB2.0 all over.

You got it with the Hub, or "it came with" the hub. It may not be compliant. Also, your DVD issue is a power issue. LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, THE DVD ISN'T WORKING CORRECT BECAUSE OF POWER. Remember that the longer a thin wire is, the morevoltage and amperage loss. Since there is a long cable, and it is very thin, and that long cable supplies 4 ports in your hub from one port on your computer, you are gonna have power problems.

Yes you're right about the DVD-drive, but why is the damn hub only identified as a USb1.1 hub? I have tried it with the "fat" cable that came with the dvd-drive and it is proven to be a 2.0 cable. Still no high speed connection. Took the hub apart and found the controller to be a GL850.

USB 2.0 isn't necessarily "high-speed"! The USB 2.0 spec allows for both High-speed (the 480mbit/s) as well as Full-speed (the same as the older 1.1 spec). So, just because the hub says that it is USB 2.0 compliant does not necessarily mean that it is "high-speed". People often use USB High-speed and USB 2.0 interchangeably, but they are not the same thing! Notice that your DVD drive likely says "High-Speed" under the USB 2.0 label. Does the hub say USB 2.0 High-speed? From the Intel site on USB:
"Is there a difference between Hi-Speed USB and USB 2.0? Which is the correct nomenclature?
There is a difference in Hi-Speed USB and USB 2.0. The difference is that the USB 2.0 Specification covers all three speeds 480 Mbps, 12 Mbps, and 1.5 Mbps. "Hi-Speed USB" refers to just the 480 Mbps portion of the USB 2.0 Specification. We now use the term "USB" to refer to the 12Mbps and 1.5Mbps speeds."
--> http://www.intel.com/technology/usb/faq.htm
Also, regarding the cable... From the USB.org website, a fully compliant "Original USB" cable will work just fine with high-speed USB 2.0. Of course, the cable must be certified to be "original USB" compliant...

Just curious, are you powering the hub seperately or having it power only over the USB cable?

my home pc has sp2 installed and somehow i didnt get the 2.0 drivers installed when i upgraded. I have no idea what i can do to get usb 2.0 drivers on this damn computer at this point other than reformat. As far as i know there's nowhere you can go and just download a 2.0 patch or driver. Maybe thats the problem you have.
