wierd problem - pc losing time

I just built my carpc v3. A rather humble setup, but it works for me... pIII 600, 384 PC100, 80 GB hdd. Handles MP3s, videos and GPS pretty well on XP Pro.

I have been having a wierd problem tho. It seems to be randomly losing time. Everytime I look at it it seems to be a few minutes further behind. Anyone have any idea what could cause that?

mmm I thought that might be it... time to go find one, lol. Just that in my experiances in the past, it would jsut stop holding bios values / time, not slowly lose it...

Is it losing time while the computer is on? If so, it's not the CMOS batt. And yeah, I expect a dead batt to just lose time, though maybe a dying batt might cause erratic behavior.

yeah I'm not sure about the behavior exactly, I haven't really paid that much attention to it, I'll mess around with it this weekend and figure it out.

I have had that problem on some of my client's computers. Sometimes it's that the battery needs to be changed, and sometimes, it just needs to be cleaned. I just take it out, clean it with my shirt, and 50% of the time, it starts working.

The best place (but defenitely not the cheapest) is ratshack.

Peace,

Rafster
