hi,
i'm testing my mp3 system before i hook it up in my car. i'm using an FM transmitter to trasmit the output from my sound card. this works fine, but i hear a high pitch (not too high as in squeaky, but it's high pitch) sound. is there a way to reduce this noise? the fm transmitter came as a kit, so it's not in a shielded box. thanks for any input!

I have a FM transmitter from Radio Shack that does the same thing. That's why I'm not using if for my MP3 player. If you live in a big city, other FM stations that are close to that frequency will cause static and that sound you're describing. And if you drive out of town with it, some other station might be using the frequency that you are and screw up your sound altogether. Lots of people use them for their setups though so maybe someone has found an answer. But try some other means such as a cassette adapter. Anything's better than a transmitter.

If you must use fm to get into the stereo, do not use a transmitter. Use a modulator.

Rather than broadcasting, a modulator hooks up directly inline with the car's antenna, providing much better reception, and far less interference. They are a bit more expensive though (partsexpress has one for $50).

that's bad news for my set up.
does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the high pitched toned noise in an economical(cheap) way?
