They go higher than 25gb, there are already 100gb BD-Rs with 72Mbps transfer speeds.

I'll hold off a few years. I have a dvd writer that supports DL, but I'm still using 4.7gb discs because the 8.5gb media is so expensive.

Nobody knows whether blu-ray drives will become the de facto standard. There's other technologies out there that are competing for that spot as well.

Until there's a comercial blu-ray disc on the store shelf, I think it's a waste.

I dunno man - a couple of blu-ray discs would have my hard drive backed up in no time!!! But yeah, no one will really start buying until it's at least affordable

25 GB should just about back up my little laptop all by itself. it would only take three discs to backup my main system. still is probably cheaper and easier this point to give extra hard drive.

dead thread alert, but this is the only thread I've seen in a search here of blue ray...

I was in a bestbuy today & they had a 40"lcd with a side by side comparison of a blue ray movie, next to a regular dvd movie..... pretty sick side by side...

anyone know anything else about it? this seems to be the only mention of it on these boards...

Just wondering how much a Blue Ray burner would cost..

Or do I really want to know how much I cannot afford one?

Nice post there DON.

Be more than a few years before they come down to a resonable price, especially the media.
