If you havent picked up an issue of Maximum PC March edition then you are missing out on their 12 step process to make an mp3player for your car. If people want me to scan the article then just tell. Ill scan it and put it on the web if people want it.

Yeah, I have that ish too...the only thing is that they spent like $1200 on theirs... something not too many of us have to put into this thing. They also used parts from suppliers well known to this board, like powersupply from arise computers and a Matrix Orbital VFD display from linux central.

The best thing about it is that it seems to be becoming more and more mainstream to have MP3s/computers in cars, Which means it's only a matter of time till companies like Pioneer, Clarion and Sony start making commercial systems. Anyway that was my impression of the whole thing. The article has already been put online and can be found at

www.maximumpc.com/route66

Enjoy!

Well only after I scanned the whole article
did I find out it was posted on the web. I hope NOBODY follows their directions. They built a COSTLY PC which should have been 80% cheaper.

Let me put it this way.
They have a Pentuim 133, VFD, and Dc-Dc power Supply on a SBC
that would cost roughly 400 or 300$ for anyone making one. IT COST THEM 1287$...?
Thats screwed up, for that price, I would get 3 6" monitors, a overkill Pc and a GPS sytem. All theirs does is play mp3s!!!
