Question Rand McNally GPS, Street Atlas Deluxe, and Windows XP...

I have a Rand McNally GPS (PS/2 and Serial connections), Delorme Street Atlas Deluxe 9.0 (w/ all updates as of this date), and I am running Windows XP. Software works fine BUT I can NOT get the software to recognize the GPS reciever.

Does anyone have this combo working? If so, what did you chose as your reciever in the software? Any info would be great...

And yes the reciever works. I have it working on my laptop running 98 SE.

haha, yup, i had this issue with 2k. It appears that 2k and XP, they want to install some sort of mouse driver for the GPS. look under the device manager and destroy anything running off the serial port.

Question

So will the Rand McNally serial GPS work with Windows XP and CoPilot 2002?

Works, Comfimed. XP - Copilot 2002 - RandMcNally.

Next a mini how-to for the Rand Mcnally PS/2 power issue. ( I hate how it makes my mouse go crazy.)

I am running xp with copilot,
I have a USB trackball mouse, and am using a usb to serial adater with the Rand Mcnally reciever...

Do you know why the mouse might be going crazy?

thanks

also I have problem starting copilot, it takes a few minutes or it doesn't respond, but the second time I try it...it works fine.

Try editing the boot.ini do disable serial mouse detection on the port that the gps is plugged into.

from a command prompt in the root (c:\)

attrib boot.ini -h -s -r

edit boot.ini

add the command at the end

/noserialmice=com1

/noserialmice[=comx,y,z] -disables detection of serial mice on the specified com port(s). The most common use of this switch is for use with a UPS or a modem attached to a serial port. When NT checks for a serial mouse, some models of UPS interpret the signal that comes from the com port as a command to switch to battery. Also, NT may load a mouse driver for a com port when a modem is present, which can cause conflicts when trying to use the modem.
