ebay car pc etc

yeah.. .here is a store on ebay for these units.... its all in what you want... if you have the time to build your own... do it... if you dont and can accept the compromise... then try it... its always a chance when you buy something off ebay ... then add the overseas support if/when needed. just way it out.

http://stores.ebay.com/Extreme-Audio-Electronics-Ltd

i cant wait to finish building mine... been without audio for a while now.... but its gonna be worth it....

I bought mine directly from Lilliput as a sample order together with 2x Lilliput Touch Screens. Hopefully i will get my loading times faster and an optimized XP with Phone Control an inCar Terminal software

But a lot f different brands have it. Also an nice (out of the box) function is that it shutdowns Windows when u turn off the ignition. So no direct power cut.

Just Hibernate to shut down. Take most computers about 8 seconds to close and boot...but like the person above said...there are other forums for this.

I like this one because it does go into the dash and "looks" professional.
Yes it does cost more, but what's 200.00 in the who scheme of things.

Yeah i know, i already searched and found some ood tips for changing the size o the install and optimizing boot itmes. Thx for that.

Also, thu unit makes a hell of a noise. It is extremely loud. It has 2 small fans in the back of the unit that really have to spin to make the air flow. That was a bit of a turnoff when i installed it. I have built it in my glove compartment. With the radio on you don`t hear it, but without u can hear it with the glovebox closed :S .

Do you think it would still be loud installed into an enclosed dashboard?

Well, i know that when you hold your hand close to the fans the make less noise but it seems they also spin (much) slower. So then i think i wil get overheated. Especially when having a dvd in the drive makes extra heat. Also, all the dashboards i`ve seen don`t have much space behind/in the DIN compartement. Also ther is a big cable bulk or GPS, Keyboard, etc etc.

To be honest, i don`t really see the advantage of having it in a DIN solution. The functions on it are great (i.e. built in BT, bios Media Player and poweroff) But they can be controlled with the remote that comes with it (except BT). I would have feeled more with a Voom like enclosure with a IR (for remote) extension.

I like the idea of playing DVD through the BIOS, and shutting down without draining your car battery, the noisey fans would be a pain, maybe you can replace them with better less noiser one?

can you tell us or take some pictures of the internals? I'd like to know what is in it in terms of MB, DVD unit, upgrades possibilities etc.

PEACE

Hi, i`ll try to make some pics cause it is already open for the mem upgrade. And about the fans, i don`t think that`s possible because of the height. It`s the size of the fan that should be bigger to reduce the noise and how fast it will have to spin. But there is no space for a bigger fan.

Hi Mate,

Thanks for taking up the offer to get some pix. BTW, if you can provide any further details that would be sweet.

Cheers

I have a 53mb PDF manual on this product that explains quite a bit about it. I don't have anywhere to host it. If anyone is intersted in seeing it, let me know and we can make a plan.

Aisdale: is it a technical document or something, because the (paper) manual that came with the Car PC is about 14 pages or so if i am not mistaken. A PDF manual that`s 53 MB big would be rather large for 14 pages i think .

Carma PC, it's a dashtop computer.

I found their other listing.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-PC-Carma-PC-...QQcmdZViewItem

I just bought one and it's killer. I upgraded mine to an SP13000 with 512MB ram. The front buttons are programable for use in winamp which is beautiful. I can control my music without a touch screen and save some money. The front USB ports are also slick.

The only problem as I see it is; by upgrading the mobo I lost the hardware media player function. This is known as the etBios. It's a layer of firmware loaded in the eeprom chip as a post jump. It's made by a company called elegent technologies and it loads before windows in the bios.

http://www.elegent.com/etDVD/index.htm

The company doesn't return my emails. Does anyone know how I could retain this function on the SP13000? It's really nice, and they even have a firmware web browser.

P.S.
I talked to one of the Carma pc people and just found out they sell a barebone unit. :unches himself in the face:: I wish I would've found that out before I hacked this one up.

Check it out:

It seems like it's worth the cash, I'm seriously thinking about. Thoughts?

$450.00

$2,000.00

If someone actually gets this let me know if it's fast enough to run media center.
