How much speed do you need in your dash?

Actually, I just loaded MCE rollup2 on my unit and it runs pretty nice. It wasn't playing any video, but then I loaded powerDVD and it works fine now. That's because Microsoft doesn't support the hardware DVD decoder currently.

I had to drop the res down to 640x480 to have buttons big enough use. Media Center is cool, but I think Mobile Impact is more practical because it supports GPS software.

http://mobileimpact.biz.tm/

Does anyone know if there's a navigation system that runs within MCE? Microsoft Streets would be the natural option, but then again MS never thought MCE would be used in a mobile application like this.

I'm happy with the hardware. It has more than enough power for my car. I'll do some benchmarks on it sometime and share the results. It's definately worth upgrading to the 1.3Ghz board. 22 second boot time. Although I think most of the speed increase has more to do with the chipset change.

I also put a SATA 2.5 hdd in mine. Very quick.

If anyone's interested, I'll put together a step-by-step guide with pictures of what I did to upgrade my Carma car pc.

Merv - If you could do that it would be awesome. I've got a great interest in it. Seriously considering ordering one as soon as I got a bit of extra cash. So pics of the inside would be great.

Merv:

With the old board, what amount of Memory did you have, and have you upgraded it then? Did you see a boot up difference or didn`t it helped a lot?

I now have 256MB 400MHz and i think about upgrading to 1GB 400MHz But i have heard that it takes longer to write to an 1GB module then a 512. So that`s really a bit what i`m looking at now.

Arrow So any more reviews?

OK, so any more reviews on this? Or further testing? Is it worth the $$$

How does it run DVD's and media materials? Can u run all the things like a frontend, Bluetooth, FM radio rear camera, etc all at once without performance issues? Is it jerky or its OK?

Cheers

I've bitten the bullet and ordered one of these indash computers. They are now standard with 512mb and cd-rw/dvd for 533USD. free shipping from China lucky me!

When I receive it I will open it up and take photos of the inside and put it too the test.

You can either get it from lilliput directly www.lilliput.cn or you can chat to this guy on MSN hjxhhy@hotmail.com . His english isn't all that great so keep your questions simple. You won't get free shipping - I'm just lucky enough to have a friend in China at the moment who will collect it and bring it back to me.

safe.

I just got mine last night. It seems to run fine. I only had about 30 min to play. I'll take some pictures and what not.

How did you program the front panel keys?

Exclamation

Hi guys

finally got mine. Installed windows and street deck trial, so far very happy with it. No issues - runs well in my opinion. here's a couple pics if anyone is interested. Havn't yet installed it in my car, still plotting where to put it - I do have a double DIN slot but my 7" will be there...

Really cool feature is you can play a mp3 disc, cd, or dvd without booting into windows.

Altho it was $533 its a really nice all in one solution for people that do not want to build a pc.

specs
1ghz
512mb
40gb hdd
onboard vga,lan,bluetooth,sound

Hello,

I have been looking at this unit also. A few questions :

1 How loud are the fans?
2 What is audio quality like? Do you get RCA pre-outs to connect to an amp with decent S/N ratio? Or do you have to use AC97 codec speaker out?

I think the unit is neat, but I still would like decent audio quality. S/N ratio for the AC97 codec is abismal...

Thx

fans are pretty loud to be honest, the other day I had my car fan + aircon on full bull and the car fan was definitly louder than the units fans. I turned up the radio couldn't hear the car fan anymore so... ? don't think it would be a huge issue for me.

With regard to the sound i'm not too sure, still not in the car and just got cheap PC speakers plugged in so can't really tell about the quality.I'll find out for you tho.

carma pc

I have one of the frist carma pc's evermade, Lilliput for those who know them of that name. (lilliput has just put there name on the prouduct due to we only have the rights in the US, Canada and Mexico) . I have been involved with Carma PC (DQT Data Quest Technologies) for somethime now. You could say from the start. I am not a computer wizard or all the brains behind all of this, but I am involved with

www.carmapc.com

When I first got involved, I was and have been worried about one major thing. Heat. Being from Ohio it does not get as hot as some states. That is why I have been in a test car in florida for the last 8 months with a full unit installed. I must say,,, The GPS was one the best things I have ever used on the road. I bought micorsoft streets and maps for the USB device and installed Iguidance software.

I am not trying to go on about alot of nothing so I will try to explain my goal here posting. I now there are alot of unanswered questions about this prouduct and we have not been talking much at all. I have done my own install in my car and used a sony 500 watt amp. Yes, I feed my amp off the low-level output on the sound card. Works fine for me even the bass.( are Ideals of making a USB amp that would work with units.) I had to modify the dash for my test car.(black 94 sunbird. Sun loves black) I installed a 7" touch screen. I have been using the 1g cpu. 512 mb. I will be upgrading in Octobet for I am planning on a return to the Ohio state.

We have new ideals that are comming soon. Our first goal was to ensure our product could handle wear n tear on the road. Well,, I have not been gentle with mine. I have operated my unit in extream temps in florida. an average day, car windows up and sun blazing can hit temps of 160 F. I have turned on and off at least 5 times a day in all differant temps since I have been here. I have only built my own confidence up in our prouduct.

I will be posting more info and pictures as I read questions and will try to help in any way I can. I am one person and I work full time other than Carmapc. One year ago everyone thought we were crazy. Were not crazy. The world just wasn't ready for this yet. Wait till ya see our new face plates and monitors with a built in LED FM tuner for the carma unit.

One other thing I would like to add here,, We have been working on our web site and have had a few problems here and there. We are a very small company and do what we can when we can. We are small now so we can get this right the frist time. and not bite off more than we can chew.

When my car is off and not running I hear the fans. When the music is on, I hear no fans. I feel better knowing the fans are there to help keep the unit cool. You can ajust the speed of the fans in the bios.

More coming later. We are working on a installation video to help on the install on these units that will be posted at a later time online. I will keep you updated on when it is ready.
