Where to get touch sensitive volume sliders?
Ok i have searched but i cant find anything exactly like what im looking for.
Logitech has a new keyboard out in there MX line that has volume sliders that are touch sensitive. I want to find someone that makes something like this that could be used for numerous applications. Like built in to the center console or into the doors to control the windows.
Has anyone seen anything like this before and have a link to it?
thanks

they are expensive; look at qprox ic chips. i have played with a few of there single button ic's (andi have 3 of there 6 button ic's sitting next to me as i type) great product but the sliders are really expensive

it may be worth it to hack that keyboard up. looks pretty cool
edit:
looks like you can get a refurb. one on ebay for 100 bucks shipped. Thats about the same price as that qprox chip but the drivers/software is already written for you.
if you got enough qprox keys (maybe the 10 key chip) you could simulate a slider volume control by putting them in a linear fashion and writting some software that will translate it into a linear slider control. that should be relatively cheap <$20

When I search for the QT401-ISG, which on the qprox website is their basic touch-slider, its only like $2.60 on Digikey. Am I seeing this incorrectly?

Qprox ICs aren't expensive at all. Digikey has them for less than $4. You do need to build a basic circuit around it though, so it's not for everyone.
I've not used the slider chip, but I have used the 6 button touch (QT160) and it's pretty easy to get going.

I checked it out. Ive only built like one circuit board before tho. Although my brother has his minor in electrical engineering and has done quite a few. I'll see what if i can get it working.
It would be so awsome to eleminate some of the ugly buttons on my doors and might make a great steering wheel add in as well
thanks for all the help

Exactly DUDE. A custom fiberglass dash is what im gonna shoot for. I have no idea how to get the ac to work with these. But my truck has a fairly simple one. So with a redesign of the dash maybe i can find some other suitable toyota ac unit that has all electric parts to it. That'll be some fun searching and calling annoying parts guys.
Did you guys see the rotary style sensor on that site? I could have the very first iCar. LOL
that would be so gay

Would a touchpad work? If girder can (or by any other means) block the mouse control from the touchpad, you can maybe set it up to take actions according to the x y position of your finger when you tap it.
For instance, imagine the touchpad separated into four quadrants. You could then apply a mask which covers all but the four shapes/icons of the buttons.
Not sure if it's plausible, just throwing it out there.

Yes, that's possible.
Even as a standalone unit.
Look at it here.
Then read about it in detail here.
Then, watch a full length video of how it all works together here to get an idea.
Again, It is possible, it's just that sometimes a project like the one I referenced to may take several years...
Have Fun!
