Problems with a Compaq Presario 1247 Laptop: Will not power on.

Not sure exactly where i should put this, but here it is anyway...

Alright, here is the deal. I have a Compaq Presario 1247 that I was thinking of using as a carputer, (easy and temporary) that is if i can get it to work. So far the attempt has proven fruitless

It was given to me by a friend (not to computer savvy) saying it didnt boot and that it hasnt worked for a while. I thought ahh hell reload it and ill have a laptop YAY. But its not that it wont boot the thing just does NOT TURN ON. I put the AC adapter in, light goes on saying its plugged in, but does not charge battery, and does not power on.
So next I removed the battery and charged it with a seperate charger. Plugged the unit in and tried to boot, nothing
Lastly I opend it and put voltage straight to where the battery connects, again nothing. I have checked the switch itself and it seems to work properly.

Is there anyone who has had a similar problem? Does anyone know what i could try? Let me know.

Thanks
-Luke

Could be anything from a bad power on switch, screwed up bios flash to a dead motherboard. Could be just about anything really, pretty hard to troubleshoot this sort of thing over the internet.

Good luck.

maybe see if you can pick up a cheap replacement one of ebay?

Not sure otherwise. maybe someone a bit more experienced in laptop repair can help you out.

Good luck

Eh, try connecting the 12 v into the laptop witout the battery. You'll notice it will power up. BUT, it needs 14.7 V to run from the car's power system, with the abttery installed.
