My planned setup - tell me what you think!
This is what I am going to do for my MP3 computer:
Case and Motherboard: Shuttle SV24 Barebone System
Processor: Intel Celeron 700mhz
RAM: 256MB PC133 RAM
Hard Drive: 40GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Keyboard: Mini IR Keyboard
Mouse: Cirque USB Touchpad
LCD: 4" NTSC LCD
Power: Jensen 300W Power Inverter
OS: Windows XP Professional
I've already purchased the LCD and the Inverter. I added all this up and it should run around $600 - $700. I know you may think the LCD is a little small....but, the opening in my console won't hold any larger. Besides that, any other suggestions or comments you can give me??

I have a Pioneer DEH-P7400MP that has AUX input. That's how I am going to feed the sound in.

how bout the pc power control.... when you turn off the car, does the pc shut off instantly, or are you going to have a shutdown controller.
inverter power control. does it turn on and off with the ignition?
video signal to the screen... is it rca or vga? if rca, does your video card have a default to tv output setting?
are you going to strip windows down to lessen boot time? is there a way to disable profiles in win XP? so that when you start up, you dont have to select the user profile?
just some stuff that pops into my head..

As for the PC power control, I am not sure yet. Haven't thought about that yet. The inverter does not turn off w/ the ignition. Any ideas?
The video signal to the screen is RCA. The mobo I am using (FV24) has TV OUT on the board. So, that is not a problem.
As for windows.....as long as you don't create a password and have 1 user account on the computer, it will automatically log in. I'm wondering if you can do that "SHELL=" trick with Windows XP too? Anyone know?
Good questions. Anything else???

What about the on-board sound for the FV24? Do I need to worry about that? Is it good enough? Or should I be looking into a new sound card?

My 2 cents
According to Arby, the sound is great on the FV24!
Install a cut off switch to the inverter.
Look into a shutdown controller.

Hey...this "cut off" switch...how do I do that? I'm pretty good w/ electronics just never really fooled around w/ switches. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Switch installation
find a toggle switch @ radio shack or something and set it up so that the power, aka hot, wire is "cut off" when the switch is in the off position.
search the site for others that have used this
