I think he's wanting to see if the back ports are jacked or not. Usually there are 2 ports per controller, maybe one of the controllers on the mobo is wasted. From the sound of it, that's what it is. The controller for the back usb ports is effed up. Sounds like he still is getting power back there, just no data. So, good test would be to check the other usb ports via the mobo header.

Yep!
Sounds like a plan!
It sucks when you have just one thing not working right!

Okay so I bought a USB receptacle and connected it to the mobo pins and it worked...

I was unaware there are to USB controllers... So either my physical port is messed up or one of my controllers is messed up.. Either way this gets me back up and running which was top priority..

I'll probably do some further investigation soon.

Thanks again.

I have the same problem w/ my back USB ports. On my bluetooth device, the light is bright for maybe 1/10th second and then it goes dim.

The problem started when I somehow managed to short the 5VDC to ground. There was a nice bright flash followed by some smoke. It looks like Ive burnt a resistor or diode out. Neither of the back port USBs work. I just ordered an adapter to try to get the front USBs working.
