Serial port problems in XP
I decided to install XP and the only problem I ran into was that my serial ports (COM1 & COM2) will not work.
Quote:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I searched MS support and I can't find anything about it or error code 43. It worked fine in Win98 & ME. The MB is an Asus P2E-M, and it seems Asus no longer supports it, the bios is the most recent. Could it be a driver problem? I honestly wouldn't care about it but my IRman is connected to it. Any ideas?

I would think that turning off PNP on a XP machine would be a bad idea...
Try hard setting the serial settings in the BIOS (ie...No more "Auto"). Also, are you running the latest chipset drivers from Asus?

The only thing serial related that I can set in BIOS is the IRQ settings, and those are ok. I just found the chipset drivers (it just said all Windows versions) and I am going to try them.

Well no luck with any of the drivers. I found some for XP, but all it would give me is "Your computer supports this chipset. You don't need to install the INF". Well I guess I am gonna have to get a serial to USB adapter.
