Help...Boots into windows then restarts, infinite loop...
Here's the latest. The computer boots up fine, gets into windows, and just about as my desktop comes up the computer restarts. It's not always at the same point, sometimes it's able to almost completely load windows, other times its before windows even loads, while the splash screen is still going. I don't get it. Power supply issue maybe?
Thanks,
Dan

you may be getting a BSOD and have your computer set to automatically restart....
Right Click My Computer ----> Properties
Advanced Tab
Startup And Recovery -->Settings
Under System Failure, uncheck Automatically restart.
If this is the problem, youll be able to see the actual error then go from there.

Yeah, I figured this too, but recall that it happens even before windows boots sometimes, at the windows splash screen.
Plus, I can't even get into windows to change it, unfortunately...
Thanks for the idea though

Possible I guess, but again...nothing's changed. Why this all the sudden?

But do you see a blue screen flash, even if its a split second?
Ive recorded the screen with my camera and then froze that exact frame to find the error.

Nope. And to the best of my knowledge, it's not possible to have a blue screen before windows even starts...

Well that depends on your definition of when Windows starts, as soon as the computer is done POSTing and starts loading windows, a fatal occur can occur - including when you see the WinXP splash screen.
Try using the recovery console, run chkdsk /r and see if that helps.

Did you try booting in safe mode. If it a startup script safe mode will go around it. If not recovery console is probably your best option.

Could be dust, corrosion or maybe the board has flexed and now there is a bad connection. I suggest pulling the ram out, cleaning the pins with an eraser and putting it back in. I have had problems like that in the past.
Also just because it has been working for 2-3 years, doesn't mean a component hasn't gone bad. Capacitors become leaky, dry soldering joints that crack or become higher resistance can all cause issues.

Do you have a USB keyboard? if so, try:
1) unplugging your keyboard then boot and/or
2) go into your BIOS, set Legacy USB to No or OS, which ever option is given.
see what happens
