New take on wake on lan?

Yeah I know this has topic has been beaten like a dead horse... however

In my quest not to hack the innards of my new laptop in order to wake the computer up I've been looking around at creative ways of using wake on lan to do so. I'm not interested in running a router in the car, but a friend of mine sent me a link to this place :

http://www.siteplayer.com/products.htm

They produce a tiny webserver device w/ an ethernet and serial port. I'm wondering if it would be possible to utilize such a device to send a WOL magic packet to a connected carputer?

Any thoughts?
