Post DVD and CD burner dont work above win 98

I have a dvd drive (sony ddu100e) and a cd burner (teac cd-r55s). Neither of these drives will work in any os above win 98. They will both work as normal drives, but the dvd drive dosent play dvd's and the cd burner dosent burn cd's. When i put a dvd in the dvd drive it just tries to read it but cant, its like i put in a bad or scratched cd. Easy cd pro wont detect the Cd burner. I did not try nero. Both of these drives work fine with windows 98. If anyone can help me or point me in the direction of a more approiate forum "this is not in my car computer" i would appreciate it. I know i posted this before but all posts relating to this subject seem to be disapering. I tried searching for my last post using my member nubmer and it didnt come up. Did somebody delete my post?

Are you sure you have the most recent driver for each? What OS are you using? You also might wat to try running Windows Update and look at the bottom and see if there is anything listed in the drivers section.

Not sure about the DVD, but for the burner you need to download the upgrade patch for EasyCD Creator to work in WinXP. By default, WinXP has CD-burning software built in, so try burning a disc using this method.

for XP you need to install the aspi drivers to get the burner to work.

the ASPI layer is needed for some burning softwares. I use CDRWIN which needs the ASPI drivers for my SCSI burner under win2K, but Nero will work happly with my burner on a fresh copy of win2K OS out of the box.....

maybe try Nero as your burning software?

Thanks for all your help on the burner. I will try nero tonight. If that dosent work I will try to find the aspi drivers. Now, does anybody have any ideas on the dvd drive? It is a sony ddu100e. It works perfectly with win98, It works fine as a normal drive under winXP. But if I try to play a dvd under winXP it cant read the dvd at all. It does the same thing it does when it reads a scratched or bad cd.

Are you sure that your copy of the dvd software functions properly under win2k? if your hardware is that old, is your software that old too?

The dvd drive cant even read the cd. Even with no DVD software i should still be able to see the contents of the dvd from my computer.

Sony does not support the drive anymore. Their tech support never heard of it before. They said they would check their records and put me on hold. After 10 minutes they came back and said the drive is so old they dont have any information on it. When i asked how old it was they said it was 3 years old. I cant believe they dont support a drive that is only years old.

I bet if you just download and install ASPI drivers, everything will work just fine. Try it!
