Arrow HDD problems...

So this is getting annoying..

my 200GB hdd (3.5in) died on me few months ago and now when I finally setup everything, this new hdd is starting to do the same symptoms.. what do you guys use to prevent the hdds from shaking too much? Today as I was driving the drive started to make loud popping sounds and after so long it would either freeze the pc or it would restart with a message cannot find a bootable disk or something.. but after I restart the PC it's all fine again..

I just dont know how long it will last... I'm thinking of getting a laptop 2.5in HDD for space saving and I'm guessing they're better at shaking

any thoughts?
Emo

well thanks for the help guys... I fixed it... the HDD really started messing up today and it's no longer useable.. I bought a new 40GB external 2.5in Seagate... we'll see how that goes

you are welcome! Some drives go bad. Sorry to hear about your luck. It is not the differance between 2.5 and 3.5.... just a bad run at the plant or shoddy QC.

how are you powering it. I used to have an invertor.....I went over a slight bump and 2 harddrives failed. I figured it was the bump. 5 years later I look back and am just about positive it had to be the invertor.

I have always thought bad power was a more likely cause than motion. The drive I use has faired better than me or the car in a couple wrecks.

I'm powering it from an Opus 150...

I'll take it in my house and plug it in my main PC as a slave and see if it does the same problems..

meanwhile the new one is gonna be tricky to setup since it's USB and not IDE.. but if I have any problems I'll be sure to ask.. lol
