LED sign random idea
I thought this might be the place to bring it up. Has anyone ever tried to point a LED scrolling sign say in the back of their car/truck. I have an explorer so it wouldn't be that hard. Here is a link to one on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1736959993
They have ones that are programmable via a serial cable and will attach to your computer. I thought it would be an interesting thing to drop in my truck since i'm often on 3 hour car rides with my girldfriend who likes to interact with other drivers when she gets bored.

I brought this up in another forum a while back, after having the same idea, and the intersting tid bit that came out was that its illegal to have anything but turn signal/running lights/turn signals. Or atleast, it was for the locality of the poster. You might look into the laws in your area. But it would be quite amusing.

MP3DUB, ya thats what i figured. I've seen like limos with scrolling LED signs doing their advertising. So its probably a local law deal.

I can imagine this inspiring a whole new brand of road rage...
*HEY BOZO, BACK OFF*
*bozo flashes brights, annoyed*
*THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?*
*bozo honks, incresingly irritated*
*HMMM? WHAT WAS THAT?*
*bozo sarts to pass in no passing zone*
*IDIOTS FIRST!*
*bozo sideswipes the car...*
Yeah, what fun!

I've seen an LED setup that is a licence plate border and you can hook it up to your car alarm so when your car gets stolen it will read something to the effect of "This car is stolen please call the police!!!"
It would be cool to maybe have the current song scroll...not that anyone would care what I was listening to...

that actually wouldnt be a bad idea if you could get an RF remote with something equivalent to the IRman... then you could be out of your car... picnic, camping...etc and you could control the player with the RF remote and see what is playing on the scrolling lcd sign... kinda like a winamp scrolling display...
thinking about it a little more, u could just as easily use an IRman and put the reciever on the top/side of the sign, so you point the remote at the sign to send a command...
hmmmm

seeing as you have an explorer, it might be a ***** to open the glass while your driving. get a real vehicle like a 4runner then you got power glass rear. (or bronco, but i have a 4runner so i had to rub it in your face )

i love my explorer, I had a bronco before it and have had great luck with ford trucks so i picked up a explorer. 4runners are really nice though i admit. Generally they'll hold their value longer then a explorer.
