MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R

MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R
I just about had an orgasm when I saw this board. It was exactly what I was looking for, however all the reviews on newegg say it is a serious piece..

Just wondering if anyone on these forums has had any personal experience with it..

It has standard vga and dvi.
It has rca and svideo.
It has onboard 7.1 w/ optical/tos-link.
it has firewire/usb/lan rj-45.
Only thing its missing is onboard wifi.

Yea, that board has nice features. I decided to stick to the Centrios and got the 915GM model instead.

That link in your sig is crazy!
The 915GM looks like a more suitable mobo / cpu combo for the car anyways. I like the dual output on the 945gt though.

btw, do you use the onboard audio?

Nope... I'm going to drop in my modded Audigy 2 with OPA2604 op amps. It is in my desktop right now. Once I move it over to the CarPC, I'm replacing my desktop card with an X-Fi. The X-Fi will eventually get modded as well :-)

the reviews on that board are a bit unnerving. A lot of people with DOAs and problems running XP period....

Personally, I'm looking at this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130530

It might fit your needs as well?

The optical out is actually from a bit-accurate capable audio codec....but looks like the other board is the same.

Difference? The 945GM2 takes the Socket T, which is a cheaper processor or quite a bit more powerful. So will need more power....but again, cheaper. Cheaper processor and board together means a lot. Since you can link PSUs power shouldn't be as much of an issue.

True... the first thing I bought prior to getting the mobo was the Celeron M 360 for $14. It was a super deal, but it was hard to get a deal on the a mobo. Mine is working fine at the moment. It was the XP SATA detection that was driving me nuts. Intel needs to work on those SATA drivers.

Yeah I noticied that almost all of the reviews said that they could not get both the DVI and the VGA to work at once lol, which was a big part of why I wanted it. that board you posted looks pretty sweet as well (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130530) .

I don't think that my opus 150w would be able to power a decent socket T, it just barely manages with my 2.8ghz celeron, and the rest of my components. I know I could just get another psu, but I don't really want to dish out more cash for another one =)

Hahah... the car I will get will only come with a 6 speaker non-Bose system so there won't be space for a center channel. It will require replacement of the entire dash assembly just to get one that has a grill for the center channel.

For the rear deck, I do not know if a sub will be mounted in that spot. On the model with a Bose system, there is a sub mounted on the rear deck. It'll be nice to remove the sub, mount a 4.5" speaker, and then direct the bass port of a trunk mounted sub box below the open space of the 4.5" speaker.

Since it's a coupe, I hope the rear speakers will be mounted on the rear deck as well.

I will still build my CarPC to accommodate the 6.1ch outputs of the Audigy 2.
