Post A few questions for a (semi) clueless newbie

I'm building a barebones mp3 player, and I've got a few questions.

I purchased the following motherboard/CPU on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...item=497432829

How much memory would I need to simply load Win98 and WinAmp and play MP3s at a reasonable speed? What KIND of memory do I need?

Just for reference, I (foolishly?) plan on building the whole system from scratch (something I've never done before) using the following components:
-Mini tower case
-Pentium 133
-16 or 32 megs of RAM
-20 gig (or so) HD
-TrippLite 300W power inverter
-Numeric Keypad
-Windows 98, WinAmp, keypad plugin

Anyone have any words of wisdom for me? How does this setup sound (I know it's incomplete, BTW).

Thanks in advance for any advice, and keep up all the good work.

I think you'll want to run at least 32megs for win98. I'm running 32 on my Cyrix 200 system and I wish I had 64 just for a better response from everything.

But you'll be able to get away with 32 with no problems.

Cool

Don't use an inverter. Use a DC-DC converter instead. If you need more information, search the board.

Hey Aaron, Invertors aren't all bad.
Not everyone who uses them has problems.

the thing with inverters is they go from dc to ac then you computor power supply takes that ac and turns it back to dc the in this process your losing alot of heat and electricity which causes a bigger load on your batterie that's why it's recomended to use a dc to dc converter.

ok... do we have to beat this horse again? We've killed it so many times that the corpse should have disintegrated by now.

A simple "you might want to think about using dc-dc instead of an inverter..." or give him some links to relevant posts on the board here. or ask him to search for "inverter" here too... (like Aaron did).

Now for a useful post...

It looks like you will need 72-pin EDO memory. You probably don't want less than 32 MB.

You'll want to find out what form factor the board is before you buy a case.
