Post Monitor as temporary LCD?

I am somewhat working on prototyping my Carputer. I intend to buy at 40x4 character LCD, but I am doing other stuff at the moment, so I don't feel like buying it yet. I am wondering if there is any way that I can connect my monitor to function as the lcd would through the parallel port. Is this possible?

Anything is possible... But I wouldn't waste my time on that one. Doesn't sound like an easy task. Just wait til you get the $$ to buy the 40x4, they aren't that expensive.

Carlos C is right, wait until you can afford the display. appart from it being close to impossible to wire up, you would also have to fight the power surge the monitor creates when it starts up. i have blown 2 x 20 amp fuses, when i tried to hook up a monitor to my power converter. (had a malfunction on the pc and my 4 x 20 was of no use in that situation. However it was a 15" monitor, a 9" monitor may be possible .. but i dont know
how much power these screen uses on start up...
