Post adding another sound card??

If I have 2 sound cards installed, is there a way to make winamp sound go through one sound card and like windows media player sound to come out of another card? I am thinking of adding another LCD for rear passangers and would like to have them be able to watch a movie through headphones while I can listen to music.

Can you really get two sound cards working at the same time? I have never tried that.
Another thing you could do with that is use 2 2-channel sound cards to make 4 chanel sound in the car.

I know you can select a output sound card on winamp. Just go to Options > output Plugins, select Nullsoft Directsound or Nullsoft waveout and configure your output device (should appear more than one output device).

Perhaps itīs better to leave the primary sound card to Media Player and leave the second one to Winamp. Never tried it but in theory could work.

Cheers

A couple questions:

Anyone tried this yet? What is involved in getting it to work?

Would it be possible to have a second screen with some other input (touch screen, number pad, etc.) to effectively have two separate outputs sharing one carputer? My thinking is that the people in the back seat could control their screen with separate controls from the front screen, all while using one cpu/motherboard.

Let me know if this is possible.

thanks
Scott

from my experience on my home PC 2 sound cards are fine..... I have a Vibra 128 sound card and a USB sound card with digital optical output for my minidisc player. Both work together at the same time fine..... like a few said earlier, you can use winamp to pick the output sound device.....

if your gonna try 2 PCI sound cards together, I guess you might possibly have some problems with certain sound cards together, a bit like problems that sometimes exist with trying to run 2 video cards for dual monitor support....

with windows media player I dont think you can pick a sound source, but you can pick the 'default' sound card for windows to use.... so set that to the one for windows media player and use the other one for winamp.....

should work fine.. maybe try for a PCI/USB sound device combo?

I Used to do this with an old vibra 16 and an ensoniq pci 128, works fine, you can set in the multimedia controll pannel which card is the primary one that windows uses and you can set in winamp which one you want it to use.

As long as both cards use different address settings (irq, dma etc) then you shouldnt have any problems,

Virtual Turntables....

More or less a bit off-topic but,

I have done this once with 2 identical soundcards (Creative 128 pci) and using the software virtual-turntables...

This would output to a mixer where I control the 2 seperate inputs as if it were 2 turntables...

Worked like a charm, so I think this must be possible with other programs too..
