Question digital out on the soundblaster live card and makeing a custom case

well i've got a crappy emachine computer (366c) that seems to work well enuff now that i got a new sound card, it brings up WinME in about 45 sec (thats w/ all the bog from the e-machine software and stuff. (need to get a clean copy of 98 but as a whole the system seems to be a usable one for the car so is can i use the digital out for anything on the audio out or should i just stick w/ the analog out?

sorry to ramble but i'm excited...now is all i've got to do is get another power suply, make a custom case (can't fit the modem, ethernet card, and the sound card all in w/ the way the case is setup argg...and maybe even get a lcd display for winamp. well i guess its a start

Although the digital out would be ideal , it will be hard to find a cheap car stereo face that has digial inputs. You could "tief" (ghetto slang for steal) a stereo face from a new mercedes or BMW ( as some models support digital inputs) or you could buy a face. McIntosh , although expensive will give you AMAZING sound. There average face is about $800 new, but it does have a digital input. Or you could buy seperate computer digital speakers and use them. I use Boston Acoustic digital speakers and they sound GREAT.

Good luck

you might want to look around for a digital to analog converter, i think precision power makes one as well as some other quality car audio manufacturers. this way you could use the digital out and the DA converter will convert the signal to a usable analog signal but the digital signal will not lose any quality. I would make sure that noise is eliminated in everyother way first before making this investment though.

Heres what I've been thinking about. I have a "sound blaster live mp3 5.1" and started looking into cheap options to exploit both the digital output and surround sound features. I've found a fairly popular item on ebay is a sherwood digital surround sound system. The typical ebay listing will include a cd playing receiver, standard din sized with a digital output, a digital signal processor with 2 digital inputs (cd and SB live) and a 6 channel amp to power everything. This is a pretty poor description here, but I think its worth your 5 mins to go check these out on ebay. I've seen at least 30 of them auctioned in the past month and the average final price is $250 for the entire system.
A search for "Sherwood Digital" should turn up at least 5 systems up for auction right now.
If anyone's heard of these, let me know what you've heard and/or think, as I'm considering buying one.
