How do I upgrade my bios?

I have tried to upgrade the bios on my Via Epia MII 12000 motherboard on both XP and Vista. The award flash software on the Via website does not work for me on either OS.
Can I boot up in DOS and run it from there?
How do I boot in dos from vista?
Cheers
Baz

P.S. I don't need the lecture about being careful and people teling me I could kill my motherboard.

Make a DOS disk.

You said in another post that you've been building and repairing desktop computers for years, yet you've never flashed a BIOS?
I don't know how to respond to that. As a tech professional that's been dicking with PCs for over two decades, I am aghast.

There are two files you need to download: The BIOS image file and the BIOS Flash utility. Find them here: http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/ma...erboard_id=202
Create a DOS disk. put both those files on it.
Run the executable file with the name of the BIOS image as a parameter.

Yip - I've never had any reason to have to flash a bios in about the last 3 or 4 years. I've got the flash util, and the .bin file. I've decided to just use an old floppy drive and wire it up. Seems like th easiest way round is to go back to the old fashioned reliable way.
Cheers
