So...? Its a nice system as far as gaming goes but its a bit to powerful (I believe) for CarPC use. There is almost nothing, not including gaming, that would require that much power in a car. It is a nice system however...

I always worry about having enough juice and enough inputs for what I wanted, from running 2 different GPS apps, like Streets & Trips, and iGuidance, running a video camera in the front, and record while driving or on; police like. Running the D2B Car Computer to CarPuter to dropping 2 x 300gig hard drives in there so I can dump Movies, Music and not have any freeze-ups. I also need my AM/FM that I would be loosing and I somehow get my PCMCIA card for Wifi via cellular and my Linksys wifi card.

For a little over 500$ for it + the screen for under 1g you can sure have a nice system, now I am worried about noise levels and how will I get power supply to the case.

Well if you want the power (excuse the pun) then more power to you.

For noise: it depends on where you mount it and if you will be using enough of its processing power to need the fan(s) at full speed, etc. In a situation I had with my first install I noticed that with no sound and when my 305 small block only idling I could hear the drive and the fan noise, but it was sitting on my back seat. When you are listening to something you probably wont hear it unless you have really loud drives/fans.

For power: I don't know how much power that PC will need plus whatever you add onto it but they have an 150W Opus in the store here that is built to fit into the shuttle cases. Im assuming it will fit unless Shuttle has changed its case configuration.

Thank you, I will double look for something more quiet and maybe not as much this comes w/just the case and mobo. and with a 400w that's too much.

I just have to sit down one day sketch the system, compare and get online
and buy.

I'm driving a big SUV so stacking it in the back won't be a problem.

There is no way in hell a 150w Opus will power the system you spec'ed. Not even close. Sure the PSU will mount nicely in the case. But if it fits right and doesn't power the system, it's really a moot point, isn't it?

However, that system does have some appeal, and is usable for a vehicle installation.
My suggestions:
1 - Get a Mobile Core 2 Duo processor. They draw very little power, as they were designed for laptops.
2 - Go with one larger hard drive instead of two smaller ones.
3 - Use USB devices for some hardware and power them by a PSU specifically for the USB devices.

First of all, there is no need for multiple GPS apps, particularly to be runing at once. You'll eventually find one that you like, and simply use that.
Many members are using their setups for the same functionality you describe (myself included) on far lower-spec hardware and don't have any problems with freeze-ups or other performance issues.

Oh, and once you have all that media in your ride, you'll wonder why terrestrial radio was important to you in the first place....
