Mac Mini and Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD

Any ideas that might work?

I own a pioneer dvd player (details in the bottom). I was wondering how i could implement a pc with this.

Can i dispaly a video from the pc on it?
Can i use the thouchscreen for it?
Can i play music from mac mini on hard drive over it?
Can i still use it as a reg radio without turning on pc?

or do i have to take it apart and really modify it somehow to be able to do this. i mean this thing i can maybe sell for the same price i would pick up a in dash tft diplay only anyway.

All i want is to be able to use it still as a reg. radio without turning on the mac-mini, play music from CD/DVD (ev. dvd movies as well). The lcd act. only needs to be operateable when the pc is on. and all the other crap as well for sure. like odbII, gps etc.

Any ideas that might work? i gotta be sure before i pick up a mac mini and start taking it apart. they won't take it back then lol.

can i supply enough power?
for GPS?
ev. a 2nd or bigger hdd (about 320GB instead)
to support usb keyboard and mouse?
can i built in a radar detector within the pc as well (couldn't find info about that)?
some other (up to 2) small devices on usb port at the same time? (small printer, gamepad, etc.)

i would make a custom case for that one then, when u can tell me that works together or not. maybe a possibility to take the pc with me when needed?
otherwise i will stay with my dvd player alone a little longer

Does the Mac Mini have TV-out? If so, use that output. If not, you'll need a scan converter.
Be prepared for a poor-quality image, though.

You'll be happier that way. Look for a screen that has a VGA input.

Why would you need to take it apart?

YEs. Get a Carnetix P1900.

for GPS?

Yes, but I believe the choices for GPS navigation for MacOS are very limited.

I believe so, but a MAc user could tell you for certain.

Macs dn't have PS/2 ports anyway.

Not that I'm aware of, but you can interface with a Valnetine One.

Yes. Why would you want a printer in your car?

SEGeek...I'm not sure what the point of posting a link to the V1 was for....but what Darque was referring to was the fact that there's a piece of software out there that will take your V1 and display it on the screen of your car...it's not a USB radar detector.

tdali - did I talk to you on the phone yesterday?

(I talked to someone about putting a small reciept printer in their cars yesterday...)

no you didn't talk to me on the phone, i would remeber, lol.

MAC OS?
i wouldn't use mac os. i would run windows xp pro on it (cause i own that one already, and have created a fast boot windows with nlite i use - 8 sec.) all software i use is for pc and not for mac. and the mac mini is an intel chip with the possibility to run xp as well. i would only run xp for example. i know a lot of people love mac os, but for me it wouldn't make sense to get used to it. i run on all my computers same modified desktop, setup etc. when something is wrong it is more easy to fix that way. the reason i want to take a mini is that it has a lot of power and good graphics quality for its price and size. not even a reg. mini pc can beat that.

the reason i want to change the mac mini case would be to implement some other stuff i need in there (for OBDII, and other stupid gadgets etc.). i am not sure but i don't think it would really fit, so i was thinking of modifiying the case and make it look like a part of my car or something. i will get a new one soon (want a lotus elise, we will see - otherwise it would be a bmw). the best thing would be if i can take it along with me (pc) and use it as a desktop computer if needed. like a docking station.

thanks for your help and anserwing the questions as good as you can. when i start the project i will document it as well.

about the printer!
so i can print an advertising sample, print a contract etc. i have a web-design company, do flyers etc. and so many times it would have been great when i would have had a small portable usb printer with me to speed up work or even win reluctant customers because they are hot right now, lol.

The answer to this topic is no ...but possibly.

http://indashpc.org/new/

Those guys have been working hard making PC to HU adapters...both for stock (Dodge, Honda, BMW etc) HU and for Pioneer brand HUs.

I don't know if the newest units are up to speed...but only 6 months ago the Pioneer interface was first beta released.
