VIA Eden and Composite / S/P DIF
Has anyone using these uITX boards had any trouble getting the RCA jack to work? I haven't been able to get digital audio or composite video out of it...
For the composite out I: 1) Made sure the s-video port was not plugged in. 2) Made sure the J11 jumper was set for composite video
For the S/P DIF out I: 1) Made sure the J11 jumper was set for digital audio. 2) Made sure that "S/P DIF Output" was enabled in the advanced sound configuration in Windows.
Did I miss something? I'm running Win98SE, I installed the drivers that came with the board (not the latest from the website), and the Line out, S-Video out and VGA out work.

perhaps it's a bios setting that you are missing.
I got my board, set everything up and with in 20 minutes i had my os installed and running on my television when i first got it.

Well, I'm certainly open to a specific suggestion, but I scoured the BIOS both onscreen and in the manual...

I've had three of these boards (well the 5000's) and one had a faulty composite, not tried 5.1 on any of them but it might be the same problem.
Have you tried attaching a VGA and composite at the same time then selecting composite in the display properties?
My faulty board then gave a composite output whenever there was a VGA attached (even if switched off) but lost it when the VGA was detached or PC cold booted, my guess is that your board is faulty as you should always have composite output from boot (as long as J11 is set and you don't have SVideo plugged in).
So you have two choices, send it back (obviously do the usual fault report RMA thing) or if you don't care about 5.1 but want composite then use a SVideo -> Composite converter (parts express amongst others have them for a couple of $).
I sent mine back for a replacement.

Sadly, my main interest is in the digital audio... I had hoped to get 5.1 sound in my car.
However, I never thought to look in the display properties... Perhaps the composite out was not activated there. I'll try that out when I get home.
As for replacement... I'd had to give up my new toy after waiting so long for it

Well, I got the composite out working! I'm not sure what I was doing wrong before, I may have been using a bad cable.
I still have not been able to get the S/P DIF output working though. I put a meter on it and it's completely dead. Has *anyone* gotten this to work?

did you happen to purchase the FAD-PA case? I can't seem to get the case open, and there doesn't seem to be any removable screws. I'm afraid to break it. Any suggestions anyone?

Nope.

Yup, start yer own thread that has something to do with your problem
But seriously, it's just a case. Who cares what happens to it? Obviously it's no good if it's mangled beyond recognition, but surely you can distinguish between actions which are likely to result in that end, and actions which aren't?
I'm surprised it didn't come with installation instructions... Try contacting the manufacturer, that would seem to be a pretty big oversight on their part.
Look for seems, and jam a screw driver in 'em 'til they split

I got my S/PDIF working, no prob. I used a composite to toslink converter to get digital into my DAC (only optical input) and it works great! What are you tring to run you S/PDIF into?

thats what I am about to do, but when I pay 75 for a case I don't really want to mess it up unless I really have to. I want it to look good in my trunk =). Thanks for the response. I emailed the manuf. and just wanted to get a response sooner than monday, which is why I posted here.

I can't say I understand that, but you're certainly not alone. I must be getting old

Well, at first I used a standard composite cable to try to get it into an "AC-3 RF" input jack on my receiver, which I thought would accept S/P DIF, but I think I must be wrong about that one.
Next I tried hooking it up to the S/P DIF input on my creative audigy, but got nothing there either. I spent a lot more time with the receiver though, maybe I should explore this option a little. more. The thing is, my multimeter showed a signal coming out of the S/P DIF output on the creative card, but it doesn't show *anything* coming out of the Eden board.

Well look at it this way - think of the times when you show one of your buddies your mp3 system for the first time. They want to see where the magic happens. If you pop the trunk and see a neat, clean install, its much more impressive than seeing a case with screwdriver scratches all over it. In the car audio world, and in competitions, the appearence of your trunk setup is taken very seriously. I know alot of us don't go to audio comps, but to make it look nice is something to take pride in.

Since you checked all the settings all I can think of is that your receiver won't decode a non 5.1 signal. The Eden only outputs 5.1 when you are playing DVD and have S/PDIF selected in the DVD Player Software otherwise its just 2 channel out. My DAC wont decode 5.1, but it will decode 2 channel.

Really??? What a jip... I was using a DivX file with an AC-3 audio stream, not a true DVD. Looks like I may have to go with an extigy after all. I was hoping to use the onboard audio.
