There was recently a thread in the Classfieds section that had caught my eye as both enticing and fishy.

It was posted by a representative of a company called KSG Mobile Phones based out of the UK. The man's name is James Huber. It caught my eye as enticing because they were selling LCD and Plasma TVs at ridiculously low prices ($500 for brand name 42" LCD/Plasmas). This, however, is also the reason it struck me as fishy. The post contents are below.

I don't live in the UK, so I can't really look this company up. Also, the googling I did on the name and company didn't turn anything up except the same thread that is (or used to be) posted in the classifieds section--whether it was removed or not, I'm not sure.

So, due to the bargain shopper in me, I was wondering if anyone knows if these guys are legit? Has anyone heard anything about them? I'd love to get the deals they advertise, but I don't want to get screwed over or have my identity stolen in the process.

I live in the UK and this ad has red flashing warning signs all over it:

1) the address mentions no town - I checked my MapPoint and there are three "Strafford" streets in the UK: London, Barnsley and Gainsborough. Even so it might only be a mailing service type of operation. A professional business should at least know how to write their address down..

2) the English is very poor - in fact it reads more like a Nigerian 409 scam letter..

3) the telephone number shown at the bottom is a mobile number - probably a prepay mobile so you (and the police) can never trace it..

4) the email address is hotmail - easy to set up and operate by scammers

5) low prices.. this is the big giveaway. If this was eBay you'd be hitting the delete key. This means the low price is there to overcome your reservations - "but its a bargain".

I'd almost place a bet any money you send them never results in delivery.

Hit the little triangle with the exclamation mark at the bottom left of the post. It may or may not be a scam, but it is most definately spam.

i noticed that the guy mentioned the Motorolla Q (For Verizon). to my knowledge, Verizon doesnt make any phones that use SIM cards, so using them with Vodafone or Orange is probably not going to happen. Not to mention Verizon cripples their phones by locking them into their network, and unlocking them usually breaks the phone.

just my 2 cents, even though its already been established its a scam...
