Help - Keyboard and Mouse stop responding after new software install...

This is a VERY odd issue.

I have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. Everything is working fine until I install some ODB2 software that connects via USB. (I think there is a USB<->Serial driver in there, still checking on that).

And now as soon as I press a key on my keyboard both the mouse and keyboard stop responding. Completely... If I hibernate and resume I get them back, until I press any key and then, BAM, no response... The touchscreen for the mouse still works, but I cant type in addresses for my GPS software anymore.....

The thing that completely baffles me is I added a USB device (the ODB2 cable) and the software and it affects the PS/2 mouse AND keyboard...

Any thoughts? I dont even know where to start looking. I have uninstalled the OBD2 software and still have the same issue... Is there a way to see which dlls or drivers have been installed last and slowly roll things back?

Im lost....

If you have system restore on then restore it back to before you installed the software. It doesn't help you diagnose the problem but it will get things working again. After that you can use software like regmon and filemon when you reinstall and they will tell you exactly what was installed. I am also guessing that removing the software wont remove the usb-serial driver.

Ahh! Great minds think alike. That is exactly what I did after work today. After restoring to an older version, and reinstalling the software things 'SEEM' to be ok. Im not convinced yet. This software does funky things with my COM ports and other USB<->Serial devices... So Ill give it a day or two and make a final judgement.

Can you tell me more about regmon and/or filemon? I've never used them nor heard of them.

Thanks for the reply!
