Unhappy Dead HD

Hi All,

Im new to this game and ive just purchased a complete system for the car. Worked a treat running road runner and the crystalblue skin until one morning I started the car and it wouldn't recoginse the HD. Like a fool I didnt back the HD up.
Got a new HD put it in a desktop and built the laptop HD with tiny xp and installed road runner and skins etc but then transfered the disk to the car and it won't boot to xp, just get the bar across the bottom of the screen but it won't go into XP.
Do I need to remove a device driver from device manager when its booted up on the desktop?
Is this possible to build it on a different pc and then transfer the disk to another machine and let plug and pray do its bit?
Ive even tried to bring the sys board in the house and hook it up to a normal pc but it wont power on even with the on/off jumpers shorted.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers in advance

When you say bar, you mean the white bar, that zooms across? Did you have the PC set on hibernation or standby? If it is in hibernation, all I do is when I see the bar pop up, I hit F8 and then click delete restoration file blah blah blah. Basically Windows does not like any type of hardware change and will act stupid. I deactivated my onboard sound card and had the same issue......... Your HD is fine, im sure if you put it back in the other PC it will work. I thought my HD was fried to, or to be exact, that the IDE to SATA converter was messed up, but it wasnt. Im not sure if the F8 option works on cold boot, but you can try.

Am i correct in thinking you formated and installed xp on a different mobo than the one in your car? if so, that has never worked for me, i alwas have to format and install the os diks with the disk hooked up to the mobo that is going to be used on.

That happened to me also. I installed the OS on another MoBo with IDE. When I tried to use it on my new MoBo with SATA it said no OS installed. So I had to start from scratch.

If you install Windows on one machine, then move the hard disk to another machine, it usually will not boot - unless the machines are very very similar. There is a way around this using a utility called SysPrep. It is a little advanced, though. Your best bet is just to reinstall Windows on the car pc.
