I bought the 7" Lilliput monitor and am planning on placing it into where the stereo goes. I purchased a second center piece of the dashboard so that when I cut into it, I dont risk messing up the original. It seems as though the hole left from taking out the stock radio is wider than the screen, yet not quite tall enough, so I am planning on using my dremel to cut out some more room. I still have to figure out how exactly I am going to fill in the gaps on the left and right sides, and am looking into fabrication of a bezel or something. I am using a mini ITX motherboard in a voom box, which I am planning on mounting to one of the back seats, much like you would with an amplifier.
I do not see how you are going to use a laptop because of power supply issues, but am interested in what your plan is.
I was hoping that I could install the motherboard into that stupid chillzone compartment, so that it could actually be used for something. I realized real quick that if you do put sodas in there, and you leave your car, the cans will explode from the heat and make a mess. The motherboard would have been cooled real well in there while the car is on, and is close to the screen, but the motherboard is a centimeter too large. If I cut out the molding to fit the cans, it probably would work, but I do not really want to do that to the vehicle.
I will put up photos and a more detailed description of my parts when I get home this evening.

So, there has been a change in plan.
I ended up buying a car installation kit for $20 at best buy. I have also taken apart the monitor completely, and mounting it within the car installation kit. Both the monitor housing and the kit went through hours and hours of the wrath of the dremel. I will be using fiberglass enforced bondo to make the enitre thing one piece again, sand it down nice and smooth, primer, then paint.
