what inspired you into "carputing"?
i saw in a magazine, dub, car audio related, at the USO on my way to bootcamp, that had some preassembled carputer stuff from the UK. and that inspired me into looking more into carputers. made a friend in pensacola NAS school that told me about this forum and front ends. looked more and more and i was hooked. now i have a carputer and i love it.
i finally got my brother to look on this site, he never really wanted to. he thought it was so nerdy that it was beyond him. well he looked today and saw fusion brain. now hes loving this place.
what inspired you to do a carputer?

Where's the "other" option?
I'd be thinking about it for a while about 10 years ago, and then I saw Hugo Fiennes website : http://www.chaos.org.uk/~altman/mp3mobile/
So I thought I'd do it smaller.

I need the 'other' buttons too. I needed an idea for a HND Computing project and wanted to do something hardware based, rather than a database or spreadsheet, and searched for project using a Book PC (my old computer at the time). I seem to remember coming across T's (ccsnet's) site - letscommunicate.co.uk - as he used a similar PC way back.
You're right about its addictiveness (if there's such a word). I just wish I had some more time for the 'hands-on' in the car. i.e. dash fab!

Other here too. My motivation was more out of necessity. My commute when working is a minimum of 130 miles and a maximum of 265 miles (driving, that's the max). While driving to work, I got tired of being called for meetings, having to pull out my laptop, HOPE I was close enough to a signal to get the internet. And then when I finally get to work, I can't get on the equipment for a couple hours.
So I started looking for ways to turn my car into an entire office and entertainment system. The rest is history. lol
I chose police data system because that proved to me that the concept was there. Also, I have to admit that back in 2004, after I bought my 350Z, I found one on e-bay that had 2 monitors running xp. So that probably sparked my interest too.

Was Insipred by other audi enthusiasts who integrated carPCs in their cars and how ideal and "easy" to get my music collection into my car.
"easy"... yeah right lol

Other; I was searching for some info on Radio installs and one of the links was to this site. Out of curiosity I clicked, started randomly exploring the forums and came across this. Been hooked ever since.

Im just a computer junky and felt like blowing every luxury car out of the water when it comes to functions. I wanted to show that you can have any type of car and make it into what ever you want, you dont have to buy a BMW or Lexus and whatnot to have luxury items.
I think that you should have made the poll with a OTHER option, because none of those inspired me. Although KITT is pretty cool, and the Dodge Charger Police Car is hot as h3ll.

my aesthetic annoyance with my separate gps, sat radio, and back-up camera screens led me to this long, tortuous, but rewarding hobby.

Another "other" vote, and found tigergibb's install on a Xterra enthusiast site which linked to his work thread here.
At the time I had a DVD touch screen unit and was disappointed that the manufacture decided to not produce a long promised navigation unit for the device. I was looking for an all-in-one solution and a CarPC seemed like the way to go in both customization and cost .

Geek My Ride
I bought the book "Geek My Ride" from a computer book club. After reading it I looked up some of the vendors mentioned and then a Google search for specific products landed me on this site. A month later I had a PC in my car.

I'd heard of carputers for a while.
Since I wanted a GPS, bluetooth, mp3, etc all in one. I decided to start reading more into them. Here I am now.

I thought I was so original when I thought about putting a computer in my car. then I did it, found this website, and thought 'doh!'. My inspiration really was because I hated CD's and portable GPS's didn't exist yet.
