BUG Cheating a remote start on a manual trans

Wiring pros needed! skip to the CAPS section if you wann cut to the chase.

hello! its been years since ive posted! i once had a shuttle touch screen system in my car until ipod videos and gps units became available.. then it just wasnt worth it!

i was hoping you may be able to help me out, Ive had a Clifford G3 Matrix alarm/remote start for about 7 years now. I dont get to use the remote start much because its a pain in the ***!

you are probably familiar with the steps of the system:

1. before shutting car off, place into neutral and engage parking brake.

2. press ** button on key fob (parking lights flash, then stay on)

3. exit vehicle, and press lock button on key fob (car shuts off, locks, alarm/remote start enabled)

at this point i can now use the remote start and disable the alarm.

soooo... im sick of going through this routine all the time. it sucks when i forget something in my car (after ive done the steps) and have to unlock it (reseting the steps). also, about 20% of the time, my alarm (and remote start) disables itself overnight, rendering all these steps useless!

so im not just being lazy by wanting to 'fix' this system

CAN YOU HELP ME figure out how to make it so that i can enable my remote start without having to do all these safety steps? i dont mind the e-brake/neutral detection circuit. But, what i will have problems with is figuring out how to get it to activate without having to go through the motions before i shut my car off. I wanna be able to hit ** on my fob without actually having my car on.

Thanks,

Fernando

Im sure you know the reason why the alarm makes you lock the car with it running, so it safe to engine start it. Im sure this could be done but you would have to trick the alarm into thinking it is still running when its actually off (turbo timers do this to operate correctly). You might even have to trick the alarm that the doors have opened and closed. Also when you unlock the car (i.e resetting the engine start) you have to also make the alarm think that you car is on somehow without even starting it, maybe a relay.

It also depends how picky the alarm is in checking for all the possible conditions.

Depending on the alarm, could be a big job. It might also be quicker to install another alarm with engine start that is allot more user friendly

I know you already PM me regarding to this. Anyway, I'll reply to this thread for all.
First you bought a system that is used for manual transmission. With that system, you have to follow that procedure to enable remote starting.
When I installed remote starter in my car in 1995 (89 Supra with Manual trans), there was no manual remote starter available on the market (there's probably on the market but I didn't know about it existence.) Also back in that time, there is very few all-in-one remote starter + security system available. Because the car already have a security system installed, all I need is a remote starter add-on. So I bought the Vallet Remote Starter from DEI along with the Viper 500 alarm that already installed. This remote starter add-on was mean for automatic transmission car. I have to modify the remote starter that is use on automatic transmission. With automatic transmission, you don't have to push that many time to enable the remote starter feature. I have to install the system myself because no audio shop in my area dare to install it for me.

Ok, this is what I did so I can use the system safely (WARNING DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK).
- Installed the system follow the instruction as it was mean for automatic transmission.
- The remote starter GROUND wire, connect it to the E-brake wire. What is the purpose of this connection? If you don't set the e-brake, there will be NO ground to the module and it will NOT work. No e-brake, won't be able to use remote starter. Also you don't bold the starter module directly to any metal of the car as it will make a ground connection to the module making connection to e-brake useless.
- On this GROUND wire, I also break it out to connect to 2 (1 for up and 1 for down) micro-level switth that is seat next to the shifter boot and adjust it so that if the shifter is in the up (1-3-5) or down (2-4-R) gear, it activate the micro switch. This micro switch is a normally close switch. So anytime the switch is activate, it break the connection and no GROUND is going to the module. So the basic connection look like this.

e-brake ------- micro switch up ------ micro switch down ------ Remote starter module GROUND.
So if e-brake is NOT set, no ground to the module, can't remote start.
if micro switch activate (shifter is NOT in neutral possition), no ground to module, no remote starter.

Because the car is a turbo car, the add-on module also have a run down timer (10 minutes), I also used it as a turbo-timer which is a big plus.

Basic operation is this, push 2 button at the same time to activate 3rd channel to turn on remote starter. If e-brake was set and shifter was in neutral, car will start.
Doing any of the following will shutdown remote starter if key is NOT in ignition or NOT at ON possition.
- Activate 3rd channel again.
- Step on the brake
- Release e-brake
- Move the shifter off neutral position (1-3-5 UP and 2-4-R DOWN).
If the key is at the ON position, engine will continue to run until you switch the key back to ACC or OFF.
- Run down timer or turbo-timer mode.
While the engine is running with the key at the ON position, activate 3rd channel then take the key off. Engine will continue to run down the timer or till you activate 3rd channel again (which ever first).

Within the pass 13-14 years, I never have an accident regarding to the remote starter the way it installed. Also, I never give the key to anyone without putting the system in VALET mode (disable remote starter feature). With all the safety in mind, you never know so one accidentally put it in gear and activate the system without knowing it. Only my bro and I driving this car. I never hand the key to the valet guy. The service guy, I don't remember when was the last time I brought the car to dealer for service.

All that is required to switch the SmartStart 4 to automatic transmission mode is to ground one of the wires. I can't tell you which one right now as I just rebuilt my desktop and don't have the drive with the install manual hooked up yet.

The other instructions will work. Depending on the type of vehicle this is on, you may already have a nutral switch that you just need to tap in to.
