Been gone for a while, whats new?
Hello everyone.
Back in the day, I had a Carpc in my Grand Am.
Well, the wife wanted something easy to use and so on, so I gave her a standard alpine unit..
A few years later, I have my own car again. 98 Blazer LT.
The stock CD player in the truck is a little meh.. skips now and then, and only plays standard CDA..
I still have a few parts left over from my old Carpc, namely the Liliput 7" LCD.. But I thought I would check out to see whats the newest things that one must have in a carpc, be it nice but cheap monitors, ssd's, what boards and power supplies people are using, things like that.
Thanks for the help guys.

i doubt its changed much. as for screens, were starting to see sub-$400 "transflective" models that help readability in the sun, but thats about it.
power supplies are opus, and the minibox units are the most popular. im sporting an m2-atx from minibox myself
i think the biggest difference will be in the software. theres some nice frontends now, and only very recently are we finally starting to see some windows-desktop gps directions programs pop up too...

RoadRunner gayed out and went closed source, selling out to another company I can't remember the name of and changed its name to RideRunner.

As for screens, I have a liliput 619 that I would be using.. is this able to be adapted for transflective?

Processors have changed a bit becoming more powerful and less power consuming and I think the dual cores will be the way of the future. I recently upgraded from a nano-itx to a intel dual core system (Intel BLKDG45FC + E8400 + 4GB of RAM) and it blows all the computers in my house out of the water and is only a little bit slower then my buddies quad core.

As of right now I love my new setup it works very well with only two miner things I had/have to fix. One is the bios, it is perfect now but my board was shipped with an older bios which kept me from installing an OS with a DVD so I had to install XP and then update the bios to install windows 7 but it only took about an hour before I had 7 running. The second thing is my subs wont work, I'm not sure exactly why because they work in the speaker settings area but no where else and i just haven't had the time to dive to deep into it.
Other then those two things I have nothing bad to say... and it runs supper fast

No doubt it'll be fast with that processor, but i'd like to know how fast it resume from hibernation? How long before button pressed before bios is done?
THanks!

And you still can. The program itself is still freely available but you have to jump through a couple of hoops to download it. It will also pop up an update reminder after a couple or three months so you will want to keep it updated; it'll still work, however (though some users have strong feelings about this, see elsewhere in the forums).

Sorry, I haven't timed my system or even tried to get it to boot faster... So many other things...

Thanks Everyone!
Looks like transflective screens are more of a reality than they once were, though expensive..
Whats new with mapping software?
If I were to build another Carpc for my Blazer, It would obviously need to be able to play tons of FLAC's, GPS, mobile internet, and I really like the idea of OBDII functionality.. I never did that in the previous car, so that would be intiresting.
Does any old board and processor still do, or are the ITX boards really highly suggested?
