Me and my buddies love to go camping and i wanted to design i storage box for my truck bed that had marine speakers and cd player so i can play some music at the site ... here's my problem generally there is no power and i dont want to run my car all weekend. i have looked into a couple of solar panel ideas but i was wonder what would be the best way to get a weekend of music on a external set of 2 speakers and a dash mount cd player...

being that he is asking, i am going to assume that he doesn't want a store bought solution...

i have made a couple a while back--you really have 2 options, you can either use a computer power supply, or a 12 volt battery with a charger. the advantage to the computer power supply method is that they are cheaper, and the battery and charger is going to get heavy if you want decent run times.

the advantage for the battery design is that you will be able to run it for a while without any cords. the computer power supply would need a power cord run to it.

once you have your ideas for how to power it, your design is only limited by space, time, and money.

i built mine out of a single speaker box that i found at a thrift store, a old car audio amp,and computer power supply-- i have not yet integrated a radio into it, only using it for a 'portable' ipod speaker.

add a portable cd player to it and you have 8 hours of music on one charge. also, you can take the bluetooth dongle out of it and use it for headphones or whatever.

i use it for camping all the time. its not going to rock out your party, but honestly for camping its perfect. you just need some background music and this does a great job.

my problem with the premade solutions is that they all are small...my portable ipod speaker has a 8" sub loudness was a requirement..

ah, forget what i suggested then. honestly i think your best bet will be a couple car batteries. use one and charge the other by driving around for 15 min..... solar power is not going to be cost effective, you can count on that.

i want to also add, for work and what i used to use for camping is the Milwaukee Jobsite Radio. it has a bag on back to hold a cd player and cd's, and has AUX 3.5mm input. it runs off one battery charge for 6-8 hours and still can rock out. of course, youll need to buy a pair of batteries and charger, so all together you might get set back nearly $200, but you wont find a solar power system anywhere close to that.

just throwing this out, build a small steam engine and connect it to a car Alt. just feed it wood. and a bonus you have a fire and hot water *^_^*.
