I'm in the market for a new used car and was wondering what your opinions are of the easiest and/or best car to mod for a carputer. I'm thinking double-din at least for an in-dash lcd. Integrating to the OBD-II for diagnostics. I've read about how BMW's are nice because of the ibus...are there any other cars that have comparable features for integration? I honestly don't have much preference for a car besides being a small-midsize four door sedan (may go with 2 door coupe, but probably not), so the best criteria I can think of for choosing is which one I can mod the best! Thanks for your inputs!

every car has its own quirks-- on some cars, the audio is easy, but the engine managent could be a pain, on others it might be the other way around---i like the ease of obd2, and the way i can mod the car without ever popping the hood, but think that older carborated cars are easier to run audio cables in-- usually because they don't have the extra mass of wires for the computer management, etc...

i dont think there is one brand, or model that is any easier overall than any others-- go with whatever you like the most, and make it your own.

I agree. Besides, easy takes all the fun and learning out of it.

good point tical84: once you get used to one specific car, it becomes very easy-- i used to take a whole saturday installing a radio and 4 speakers when i wasn't familiar with my last couple of cars, but after i had torn them apart a couple of times, i could have everything pulled out, completly rewired, and hooked back up and running in 2-3 hours max (including the mandatory stop at radio shack/best buy for that part "that was right here!").

I can't speak for other cars being difficult but I have a Mazda3 (I started off looking at BMWs) and so far it has been a snap.
