Australian mp3car.com members portal
Hey Guys just an update,
had some good feedback thus far to the AUS mp3car.com members site, with AndyM's wiredride being the first members car added.
and I have seen a few guys adding the url to their sig's even (thanks kardas & skinnyboy!).
but I need more members and aust/nz based web links! even if you dont have a working system yet, if your from aus/nz send me your details to add to the website..... this website could be of real value with a little input from fellow aust/nz members...
thanks in advance guys!
oh, send your details via private msg to me if you like, I will get it quicker than my optushome.com.au emails..

Looks like I'll finally have to take the plunge and make a website for my player. Here are some of my specs.....
P233MMX underclocked to 200 and VCore of 2.0V (passive cooling)
32M SDRAM
Luckystar (?) brand VIA MVP4 based mainboard
2.5" 10G IBM Travelstar HDD
24x2 character LCD
UIR remote receiver (IRMAN equivalent)
Old laptop DC-DC PSU (just enough power)
The specs aren't all that great but this is the first player. However it does boot very fast. The aim of this one was to achieve a very low power consupmtion and to cool the hardware without fans. The system was built and housed in an old Amstrad 486 case (approx. 30x25x8 cm). It has been tested but as my car isn't on the road it hasn't been installed properly. I also recently obtained a pcchips book PC capable of playing DVDs (an ebay purchase). I'm not sure if I even want DVD (unless I can work out how to watch it while driving and work ends up being two hours from where I live) so this may never end up in a vehicle.

Well from my side, i dont have a website and i dont think i will have time to put one up any day soon.
My first player was
P200MMX with 32Mb of RAM and 4.5Gig HD.
With extension video and sound car as well as the PSU in the same case its end up being 23x24x7cm.
Completed in 1999.
Running 4x20 and UIR... does the job under DOS.
New one comming up is going to be a killer. Half the thicknes but longer in length.
Will tell you all the details when its over. Its going to be closely integrated with the car.

Just another update....
the response to the site has been fantastic thus far.... quite a few members on the members page now....
for anyone who is on the members page without an image and can supply one, that would be great... makes the page look that little bit better...
also links, links, links of an aust nature, send em! I am slowly adding ones that I come accross, but I am sure there is more out there!
and also more members always! shoot me an email....
thanks guys !

You can get maps for all of Australia (including Melway/Sydway maps) from www.maptrax.com.au. I have the Sydway & Melway maps and they are very good.
You can get vector-based data in ESRI format from www.whereis.com.au. Let me know if you get this data as I'd be interesting in seeing how you go with it.
As for programs, OziExplorer ( www.oziexplorer.com) is a good Australia GPS program. Fugawi ( www.fugawi.com) is also good (scrolls maps faster than Ozi, so I'm thinking of buying it).
As for Australia MP3 listings, I'll send my details & pictures shortly.
Spud.
