fiberglass custom console

ok dunno where i should post this but here will do

to make the frame i screwed any main parts together for the lil bits i used a staple gun and hot melt glue

i think its comingt along good

any questions im more than happy to answer

I'm looking to do something very similar. What exactly did you use to get the hard surface at the end? I know that you coated the fabric in resin. What type of fabric is good for this installation? What are some tips for doing this?

the fabric is the type used in cheapo jumpers
its about 3mm thick i just brushed on a light layer all over it then poured lots of resin over it dabbing it into the fleece then once it started top set i mixed up some more resin and dabbed it in from underneath

some tips for the fabric is stretch it lots and take ya time ans use lots of staples some ppl say to use hotglue to hold it in place but it just dont work for me if its even a bit loose it will curve when you put the resin in it then you have to fill it up with bog (bondo i think its called in usa)

i checked it a few mins ago and its damn solid now i dont think im gonna have to add any extra fiberglass to it thats a good thing

to attatch to the car im screwing some angle iron to the base of it will be bolted through the floor with the nuts welded on underneath overkill yes but i dont want it to get stolen the top of the lcd will have have fiberglass brackets made to bolt it to the dash

You do some really nice fiberglass work, a lot of planning went into that, I think it will come out very well.

thanks dscustoms glad you like it this is my first main fiberglass project i take my time ive done fiberglassing b4 but only rust repair that always turned out crap

supermatty the 2 rear bolts i will be able to get at from behind the front 2 will be set in fiberglass and they wont turn the nuts will be under the car and i will tighten them from underneath for the rear 2 with help from a friend

2 new photos for yas the resin has almost set i put more on this morning and its cold so ita taking a long time to set

how much does that fiberglass stuff cost?

and will you need to add a clear coat or something to smooth it out when you're done?(sorry if this has already been mentioned)

i spent $60AUS on 4 litres of resin and enough catalyst (bout100ml)
dunno what its worth in other parts of the world

to smooth out the bumps you cover it with bog(bondo) body filler whatever you wanna call it then sand it down till its smooth

it dosnt have to be perfectly smoo6th as the vynal or carpet will cover up and minor imperfections

Just for reference, on the full custom headliner I'm in the process of building. I've already used 5 gallons of fiberglass resin and 3 gallons of bondo...

It's coming along. But I'm paying like $17 USD a gallon for the resin and bondo is only about $13. Your prices are really high.

this was the first time ive ever brought it in largish quantities ive brought it in like 1/2 a litre for quick and nast rust repair but thats all

owell the other place i rang wanted 22buxau a liter thats like 15bux us

owell if we cared about cost too much we wouldnt be here now would we
