finally some uk car-pc modders.

hi all I'm Stan and from the link's cambs borders NR peterborough

iv not been on here for a while as i didn't have a car to put a PC in and didn't see the point in a works van. but i have had car-pc in several of my motors mainly calibra's and a transit van briefly till the engine went bang so the van went to the scrap yard.

the 1st time i did it i had loads of trouble from the amount of sanding and Filia i went through to how to get the pc to power of the ignition but i would say the biggest problem of all that i had was explaining to people why i wanted a pc in my car! some people mostly technophobes (people who have no idea of gadgets and tech )but as the years went on and i ironed out the kinks i found i have managed to get a fairly reliable system

one god send i did find this time round to getting a nice smooth finish on the screen surround and to save on the sanding i needed to do was to apply the filler to the surround the lay it on pre waxed glass and apply an even pressure to the top and leave it to set then just scrape it off the glass and a bit of minimal sanding it was almost done

not quit sure on the spec as is stuff i have just pulled together from old stuff out the shed and favors from a pc engineer mate of mine but i will give you a quick run down

1.6 ghz processor
1.2 gb RAM
80 gb hardrive
all on board graphics and sound
wireless card (Internet in the drive)
pay as you go Internet dongle (Internet on the move or parked in a field)
bluetooth (for use of my phone as the mouse when not near the touch screen)
hands free calling and voice activation commands with centrafuse HUD
plus loads that escapes me at the moment

below are some pics of a my current install in my scooby
(I'm in the middle of an overhaul in the boot so will put some pics of that hear when its done)

BEFORE
AFTER

CALIBRA

any way i feel i have gone on for a bit now so hope you all like the look of what i have done and if i can help in any way i will.
I'm hoping to do a few shows this year so keep your eye out or post any meets on here we can compare stuff in person
if I'm at a show it will be on the LJP club stand (lincolnshire jap performance )

Hey all - considering putting a Mac Mini in my car running Centrafuse on WinXP. Really new to the whole CarPC thing though and no idea about taking my dash apart! Should be fun.

Progress: All components bought and configured although I'm still trying to decide on amp(s), sub and USB hub. Then I just need to fit them all in.

I have a Mac Mini with my own theme and HUD for ICE3 and I've just installed Hear to improve the sound. As soon as the disk arrives I'll be running Navigator 9 in Fusion for GPS and using rapidostart to switch between the three apps.

well, hopefully when i can get a connection to the OBD port. I bought the ELM lead off ebay, but can't get any software to connect. Seems like Renault have their own protocol and don't like to share it. If anyone knows of any software for Renault I would be most appreciative !

go to th installtion directory of the software and there should be a tesxt file in there you need to edit the txt file so that it connects to the right port which is usually port 4.you need to check on the software what port its trying to connect to,and check it in device mamnger aswell as they both need to match up to thre free port, its usually port 4 mate.try that an it should work then, dont matter thats its renault as protocol is the same if its obd 1 or 2 etc aslong as you brought the right one for your obd port as there is about 6 different types
