A New Thought For The Kiddies

I have been running my gears for a while now on how to control everything in the car and I came up with something I want to run by you guys.

Lets kick it old school for a second (All you old member should remember this), by taking a look at bizkit boards. Now if my memory servs correct then they run on a lower power consumption rate than regular boards (ATX, ITX). So therefore they would need a less powerfull power supply.

For hardware, I think they come with a seriel port on them. So the question of interface would be interesting.

Now for the quest of software. Now I have never used bizkit boards so I have no idea what could be ran on them.

Well there you have the overview.... Now discuss!

Edit: I forgot to add a second part to this that I will explain later on if there is some interest into this and to clear up everything All the media will be played on a differant system

Hey,

Can you post a link to one of these Bizkit boards? I have never seen them or even heard of them.

Thanks,

The Rafster

Might be interesting, but IMO a little too limiting for any practical use of "controlling everything" in a car. We need flexibility in the hardware, as well as the software, and the biscuit boards specialize in integrating EVERYTHING into one compact unit, meaning no room for upgrading, and likely not enough torque to handle some apps or OS's coming down the road (so to speak). They seem too expensive for something that I will use as-is for a while, then throw out (or EBay it) when I need a little more power.

Just an opinion. I shall shut up now.

By the way, I think the spec was called "baby AT". I think it's used to a small degree in ALECCS (Dell Optiplex GX100), but Dell got around the flexibility issue by having one made with a riser slot that allowed for a PCI bus card to be used.

Shutting up for real in 3.....2.....1.....

your right they are a bit limiting, but how much does your ECU upgrades? Never.. unless you get a new unit for tuning even then the only things that are changed are a few points in the software that only effect the performance and nothing to do with the fucntions of the car. Also now that I have done some googling I have found that now adays they are coming with cat5 inputs so updating software shouldnt be all that hard depending on the software.
