Nice one...
For it to work the baud rate need to be much lower so the mobile phone can work with it...even if it take 1 minutes to transmit all the data

Why all the need for stamps, 'tone converting things' and sound clips???
Just get a phone with built in modem and connect it to a GPS. Ring phone - get GPS data! No need for it to ring you back or convert the data into anything else, It's NMEA coming over a serial connection, it can be read by most mapping software!!

The Clifford alarm should take car of that. I expect that if the vehicle is gone (and I am not close enough for my 2 way LCD remote to notify me) they must have my car on a tow truck and are real pros or I was carjacked and didn't get to my CCW (yes, I might just happen to carry a gun...) or didn't feel I could justify and take a shot. If I have this new cell phone tracking unit (triggered by incoming cell phone and/or alarm output) I would have better range than my LCD alarm remote and be able to determine location.
I guess I would want it to call several phone numbers or trade off and make one phone call every couple minutes to different phone numbers - my cell phone, my home phone, business phone... Then if my cell phone were with the car, my voice mail is getting updates as to vehicle location.

Wont you need a data enabled phone?
Not sure if you can get this to work just like that. Would be nice if you can try it first

ah, how about this...
When you start your car (your CarPC comes out of standby) and you are presented with a number keypad. You enter a 4 digit code. If you don't enter the code or you enter it wrong 3 times, it sends sms messages with the coridinates every 1 minute. That would be notification almost immediatly to tell you that your car has been stollen, and secondly would enable you to track it. If using somethink like VOICES, you could even have the current street and heading etc sent very easily.
Here are a couple of USB GSM Modems too!

Those interested in safety will find TrakM8's speeding and acceleration monitoring functions extremely useful, sending you a text message (or TrakM8 PC Kit alert) if the vehicle is been driven above a certain speed or if it is accelerating very quickly - a must for parents who allow their children to use the family car.
I hope my mom doesnt get one I rarely drive her car but when I do I always open it up heh

I am very interested in this idea too. It seems kinda simple if someone has they programming know-how.
I would like to help, but I'm not a programmer.
I have some ideas on how to accomplish this, but they are only "in theory"
