Thumbs down Car broken!

I just finished with the finishing touches and the new dvd player....when sudently while driving down to college my car started shifting to neutral between gears...???...sure enough, people at aamco were excited to find the problem....It is my transmision and and torque converter; hmmmmmm making it about 2000$ to fix.
I am sad
boooo

my baby is sick... and its so weird why, 99 accord? and the irony is that the bumper to bumper warranty taht cost me 3000$ expired in may.
heh...life's a b****

Dont hesitate to get a second opinion. When I had my truck(00 Ford Ranger with ~36k miles at the time) my automatic transmission went all kinds of crazy, shifting at weird times and into weird gears. Turns out it was just my speed sensor, and a replacement was had for like a hundred bucks. I'm no mechanic, but I would highly doubt that you would need an entirely new transmission(esp since its honda) but you might want to get a second opinion. Dont give up hope.

from one 99 accord owner to your next, my codolences.

Questions -
how many miles?
do you have an extended warranty? i do. If you bring it to a dealership, there are some situations that they will fix it for free. Do you have service receipts, matience receipts, things like that.
go to honda-acura.net- and do a search or post a thread. I know the manual transimission for some years had a problem with the tyranny, for e.g.

GET A SECOND OPINION.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Did this happen right after the DVD install?
I just installed auto up/down windows in my 99 Accord 4-door.
I had plugs removed from the driver/passenger junction blocks to run power to the modules.
On my way to work the next day the car ran terrible, I let it sit with the NEG. battery cable disconnected for half-an-hour, after that is was running fine.

Hey. back with news....looks like the tranny fluid is contaminated, and aamco says its burnt. There goes 2000$ ....I was worried this was related to the electrical system, but i disconnected everything...still the same thing...and it looks like this happens rarely to accords, they are " reliable". hmmm..I could have used that money to install 2 or 3 more screens for the carputer!

DId you see the transmission fluid? Did you see the damage? This could be so many things, and the last thing I would suspect is the transmission in a 99 accord. I would understand if it was a 01 Acura CL, but a 99 accord no way. You should have went to a shop that has diagnostic equipment, at the very least a snap-on computer, and see if the electric system is fine, especially the computer.

Aamco seems professional, I paid 50$ to have computer check, drive check, and whatever else they did. I know...they are going to rip the tranny apart ($650!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and see what needs to be fixed...hmmmm does that sound promising?

be careful with aamco and them doing transmission work. never went there personally, but a couple of my friends had their entire tranny damaged after going there. Don't want to put blame on anything, but just a note.

And yea, go to a place where they have a High End Computer like the Snap-On, cause today the majority of problems with trany's is bad sensor and nothing to do with the internals.

Burnt fluid? When was the last time you changed it. Cause the general concensus with tranny fluid is if you change it, change it atleast every 30k, recommend 20k personally, if you never changed it, then never change it unless you want the tranny to die quick.
