computer wont boot

Ok guys the computer that im planning to use as the base of this system wont boot... when the power button it turned on, the drives will spin and power lights will come on, but the cpu fan wont start...

any ideas what it could be?
is there a safety feature that the cpu wontstart up if the fan went out, or could it be bad memory? i only have one stick of 128mb memory in it

1: Is your processor seated correctly?
2: Does the heatsink have a thermal pad or grease
3: Is the heatsink seated correctly, and making good contact with the processor core?
4: Is the CPU fan plugged into the CPU fan socket on the motherboard?

I Have Not Adjusted Anything With The CPU, Heatsink, Or Fan And Everything Had Worked On This Fine Before It Was Put Away In Storage For A COuple Months, So Everything Should Be Seated Correctly, And The Fan Is Plugged In

what kind of conditions was it stored in?

also, check your connections. make sure all of the cables are really plugged all the way in, make sure memory, video and PCI cards are seated correctly. dont eyeball it, check every one by hand.

Are you getting any POST error beeps?

No worries hehe. Sorry I can't be more helpful, sounds like an odd problem, somethings things just don't work.

when i had this same problem it was caused by the ram not being seated correctly and this happened just because it sat for some time for some reason. pull it completely out then reinsert it making sure the locking clips on either end engage. hope that works, thanks, rob

CPU Fan is the Key. Assuming your using a BIOS with CPU Fan Speed Monitoring. When it reads 0 it will immediately stop the PC unless BIOS options are changed.

One of two things probably are bad assuming everything is connected right.

Worst Case : Power Header of Motherboard burnt from using a fan that wants to use too many Watts to Run.

Best Case: Fan Just Broke.

To test the fan, hook up the red and black leads to a Plug like your Hard drive uses and see if it works. Go from there..

Its a longshot but try to reset the BIOS and definately test the fan.
