I already have done this the front off my stock deck (about 1/8in thick) can be snapped right infront of my lcd! so everything looks stock =D

The foam may scratch your LCD, some foams have nasty stuff in it. I would either design it so that nothing touches the LCD or cover the foam with fine polyester (like the stuff eye-glass cleaners are made from)
